As you begin 2015 you may be reflecting on what will be different this year, and perhaps you are looking inward and asking yourself how will I be different this year?
I’d like to offer a suggestion that you spend time getting a clearer sense of who you are. Most of us worked hard to become what we are – CEO, V.P., Director, Manager, Supervisor, etc. There’s nothing wrong with any of that. What you are, or the position you hold, reflects effort, hard work and in many cases sacrifices you made to achieve success, provide for your family and make a difference. However, here’s the tougher question – who you are in terms of character, values, beliefs and actions says more about you than any title or designation beside your name.
I’ve selected some of my favorite quotes about character for you to review, ponder and reflect upon as you take your first steps into 2015.

  • You will become as small as your controlling desire; as great as your dominant aspiration. ~James Allen
  • The truth is that there is nothing noble in being superior to somebody else. The only real nobility is in being superior to your former self. ~Whitney Young
  • Authenticity is more than speaking. It’s also about doing. Every decision you make says something about you. ~Simon Sinek
  • Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

The next 12 months will flash by, if the past year is any indication of how quick life seems to be moving. Hopefully at the end of 2015 you will be able to identify specific changes and areas of growth that you will be proud of, and more importantly, areas that those who interact with you will acknowledge and thank you for.
Only you can change and improve who you are. Who will you be one year from now?
