Protect and Preserve The "Magic" of Your Business or Skill

By the Kison Team

Tragedy is not just reserved for the headlines or for a Shakespearean play. We see it in business when business people downplay their own considerable talents or skills. This is tragic.

Think about it: the reason your clients come to you is because you have the ability or talents to provide them with something they cannot or do not want to do themselves. So then why would you reduce the significance of what you do by telling them something like - "It was no problem, I just threw this together" or "Don't mention it, it was nothing"?

Imagine the impact these words have on your clients. Do you really what to imply that what you do has no value and that almost anyone could do this? Your clients may even be thinking you are saying that you are so bored doing this that it does not matter to you how it turns out.

So here's the challenge: listen to what you say to your customers. You may actually be turning people off you and your business. If you do not think your services or talents have any significance, why should your clients? Worse still if you are so bored or uninterested in what you're doing, get a different job because you're certainly not helping your company or the reputation of your industry. It is tiring to listen to people devalue their services and time, and then ask their clients to pay full price for their services when they do not seem to believe in it themselves.

Protect the magic of your services! When someone compliments you, respond with a gracious "You're welcome." You may even want to ask for a referral. You just never know where it may lead.
